Intergenerational Mission to Honduras

The FUMC Honduran Mission Team had a successful and amazing experience! We primarily were in Quimistan at the Honduran Independence Bilingual School, HIBS. Our purpose was to help expose and teach English to the teachers and students through music, crafts, and educational experiences. Our team also had the opportunity to experience Honduran life and culture by visiting local homes and farms. This was truly a heartwarming opportunity that will always be remembered by our team members. Also, generously donated items were delivered from FUMC including a refrigerator, laptop computers, projectors, and many school and health supplies. Our day apart was an exciting tour of the ancient Mayan Ruins, which left a lasting impression! If you feel a calling to experience a short-term mission trip to Honduras or just want to know more, please contact Pastor David Bonney. Thank you for your prayers and support.

UMCOR Relief Ministry

Fairfax Church supports the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), an organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work reaches people in 80+ countries, including the United States. UMCOR provides humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own. Volunteers provide assistance throughout the year, based on needs. Groups and individuals (all ages!) are needed to plan, assemble, and distribute items such as backpacks, hygiene kits, and flood buckets throughout the year. Donation of various supplies are collected throughout the year. Monetary donations are also accepted to purchase additional supplies. Prayers for those affected by suffering around the globe are also welcome. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Christie Johnson.

2018 Youth Mission Trips

We hope that all students planning to attend a summer mission trip would attend the missions meetings throughout the year.

  • Our Junior High students traveled to the Eastern Shore, VA on
June 24-29 to learn about migrant workers and serve diverse populations through children’s programming and home repair. The team was commissioned in worship on Sunday, June 24.
  • Senior High students served at the Leech Lake Reservation, MN on July 7-14  and were introduced to the Ojibwe culture through an intentional immersive service experience. The team was commissioned on Sunday, July 1 in worship.

Global Missions_Ghana New Life

New Life International UMC

New Life International United Methodist Church (NLI), a new Ghanaian church meeting at FUMC, has been a wonderful partner at Fairfax Church.  Since its beginning over 12 months ago, NLI Church has provided some important reminders about what makes us vital, healthy, and growth oriented as a local church and a denomination. NLI Church is being blessed by God and prospering through intentional Bible Study and prayer as their new church is launched.  Fairfax Church is privileged to provide space and meet our own goal of to “partner with an ethnic congregation within our facilities”.
