Lenten Sermon Series: The Final Words

Sundays in Lent, In-person and livestreamed at 9:30am

This five-week sermon series examines the final words of Christ on the cross, exploring what they teach us about our Savior, our salvation, and our Christian walk. Come be encouraged and challenged as you grow in your faith this Lenten season.

Lenten Bible Study

March 12, 19, and 26 at 10:30am || March 15, 22, and 29 at 11:00am

This Lenten season, you’re invited to make space in your spring calendar for Bible study to examine the last week in Jesus’ life. Using Amy Jill-Levine’s video-based study, Entering the Passion of Jesus, we’ll learn about the people involved in Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion and build our understanding of the depth of God’s love for us all. New and seasoned Bible readers can look forward to food, fellowship, and a powerful time of spiritual growth. Identical sessions will be held on Sundays at 10:30–11:15am on March 12, 19, and 26 and on Wednesdays at 11:00am–12:15pm on March 15, 22, and 29.

Holy Week Services

Palm Sunday

April 2, In-person and livestreamed at 9:30am

Please join us on Palm Sunday, April 2, as the choir presents Joseph Martin’s Cantata, Colors of Grace. The service begins with traditional Palm Sunday hymns recalling Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jersusalem. Then, Colors of Grace brings to life the words Jesus shared with his disciples on his final days leading up to the cross. With narrations, choir, and instrumentalists, this experience is a great way to begin your own reflective journey into Holy Week.

If you would like to temporarily join the choir for this cantata experience, please plan to attend rehearsals on March 16, 23, and 30 at 7:00pm in the choir room. All singers from high school to adult are welcome.

Table to Cross Service

April 6, In-person and livestreamed at 7:00pm

On Thursday, April 6, at 7:00pm, we gather as a church to remember significant events that happened in Jesus’ life at the end of Holy Week and to explore the dramatic transition from the Last Supper to the Cross. This combined Holy Thursday/Good Friday service allows us to journey spiritually from Jesus’ final meal with his disciples to his crucifixion in one powerful evening.

Stations of the Cross

April 7, Offered in the Sanctuary between 7:00am and 7:00pm

Our powerful Stations of the Cross self-directed experience returns this year on Good Friday, April 7. We hope you’ll come visit the 14 stations that mark the final hours of Jesus’ life at any time between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm to see the powerful images, read the Scriptures, engage with the displays, and pray the prayers provided for you. Spend as much time as you have or need and be ready to leave transformed.

Easter Sunrise Service

April 9, In-Person Only at 6:00am

On Easter Sunday, April 9, the Fairfax UMC youth will offer their annual Easter sunrise service at 6:00am in Old Town Square in Fairfax City.
