SUMMARY:Helping Hands Fest
DESCRIPTION:In the last two years\, people of all ages have gathered together for our fall service events\, first packing flood buckets for those affected by hurricanes and then assembling over 31\,000 meals for people in Honduras and at our local food banks. This year we will gather on Saturday\, October 19\, at 10:30am\, to make three different types of kits to help children in the hospital\, children facing food insecurity\, and adults in need. We will also have stations to make cards to bring comfort to those often isolated in our community. Afterward\, we’ll all celebrate with lunch. This is a great opportunity for all ages to serve our community. To help us plan\, we ask that you click here and RSVP for the event. DESCRIPTION:Life is full of waiting: waiting in traffic\, waiting for a child\, waiting for test results\, and wondering the whole time where God is and what God is doing while we wait. The Advent season\, too\, is a time of waiting and hope as we anticipate the coming of our savior. To help us prepare this season\, we are reading the devotional Waiting Here for You: An Advent Journey of Hope by Louie Giglio. This book includes a short devotional reading for every day\, beginning November 27\, to help us focus on God’s work in us and presence with us as we wait. \nAdditionally\, Fairfax UMC is offering the corresponding video study on Sundays after the worship service starting December 1 and on Wednesdays at 11:00am starting December 4. Childcare is provided during the Sunday session. Both sessions have the same content\, so you are welcome to attend whichever works best for your schedule. Whether or not you plan to attend the study\, we invite you to pick up a copy of Waiting Here for You at the church or contact the church office to make other arrangements to receive a copy. This event provides for local families who have not been sponsored for Christmas and would otherwise be left out of the festivities. We offer parents a night to come pick out a new\, unwrapped\, age-appropriate gift for each of their children\, as well as gently used books and coats to add to their holiday gift-giving\, at no cost to them. Parents can also wrap their children’s gifts in our free gift-wrap room\, and families receive a $20 Walmart gift card and\, thanks to a generous endowment from the church\, a $30 Butterball gift check to further assist them in celebrating. \nAs a churchwide mission event\, the Holiday Market requires plenty of hands and help to make it a success! A donation bin will be available in the Narthex starting November 3\, and we invite you to donate new\, unwrapped toys\, gently used books\, coats\, stocking stuffers\, and other items\, or $20 Walmart gift cards as you are able. We also need volunteers to help set up\, run\, and clean up after the event. A sign-up sheet with one-hour time slots is available by clicking here. DESCRIPTION:The spring session of English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at our church runs January 15 through April 2. Classes are held Wednesdays at 7:00–9:00pm. DESCRIPTION:The Endowment Committee is pleased to announce that our church has funds available for grants in 2025. If any member of the church congregation or staff has a worthwhile project that can improve our ministries in the areas of worship\, music\, learning\, congregational care\, fellowship\, outreach/missions\, or church facilities\, and the item or project is not already a line item in the church budget\, you are encouraged to complete a grant application. Applications are available at the church office or by clicking here. The completed application must be delivered to Dawn Conrow at the church office no later than March 10\, 2025\, to be considered by the Endowment Committee. The grant applications should also have been previewed and approved by the Church Pillar Chair who over-sees the area of focus of the grant request. If approved\, funding for approved grants can begin as early as mid-April.

DESCRIPTION:Fairfax UMC is joining with the FACETS Hypothermia Shelter ministry to host our homeless neighbors overnight the week of March 9–16. This ministry offers many in-person volunteer opportunities\, including the following: \n\nEarly Morning (5:00–7:00am): Make coffee and serve breakfast casseroles.\nAfternoon (4:00–5:00pm): Set up before guests arrive.\nEvening (5:30–8:30pm): Sponsor or prepare and serve evening meals (great for a group)\, be available to talk with guests\, make sandwiches for takeaway lunch\, or donate breakfast items.\nOvernight (9:30pm–5:30am): Stay awake in the Fellowship Hall and help out with tasks as needed.\n\nPlease click here to sign up for the time slot of your choice. If you cannot come in person\, you can also donate items including clothing\, snacks\, or funds for bus passes and gas cards. We are specifically looking for the following donation types: \n\nNew men’s and women’s undergarments\, socks\, and warm clothing.\nIndividually packaged snacks.\nFresh fruit and vegetables for snacks.\nMagazines and books.\n\nPlace clothing and shelf-stable snacks in the blue bins located in the Narthex or church office. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be dropped off in the main kitchen during the week of the shelter\, and monetary donations marked for can be given in the offering plate or online. \nWhatever the weather\, we plan to provide a loving\, warm\, and safe environment for our brothers and sisters.
