DESCRIPTION:This “Summer Semester\,” we are intentionally stepping away from our normal routines to dive deeper into Scripture\, community traditions\, and practical ministry. As part of our program\, we’re communally reading and discussing one book per month\, June through August. July’s book is The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis. This brilliant theological fantasy classic follows a bus ride from Hell to the outskirts of Heaven\, exploring the subtle choices that separate human hearts from the divine. We will use this classic text to examine the nature of free will\, pride\, and the reality of grace. SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday Service
DESCRIPTION:As we journey “among the trees” this Lent\, Maundy Thursday invites us to linger at the roots of our faith\, where love is practiced quietly and transformation begins close to the ground. This day commemorates the night Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples. The word Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum\, meaning “command” or “mandate\,” drawn from Jesus’ words: “I give you a new commandment\, that you love one another.” On that same night\, Jesus knelt and washed the disciples’ feet\, showing us that love is lived through humility\, service\, and self-giving grace. This Maundy Thursday\, we follow his example as an opportunity to truly consider the way that Jesus lowered himself in a tangible way before he journeyed to the Cross. This service is gentle\, meaningful\, and participatory. Come as you are\, whether you choose to take part in foot-washing or simply wish to witness and reflect. Worship begins at 7:00pm; we’ll see you there.

DESCRIPTION:Fairfax UMC hosts the Hypothermia Shelter in 2026 the week of March 1–8\, 2026. During the Hypothermia Shelter\, church volunteers and the FACETS staff provide overnight shelter\, food\, and fellowship for our registered adult guests. We need many people to help welcome\, feed\, shelter\, and show God’s love to our neighbors without housing\, and there are equally many ways that you can contribute. \nDo you show God’s love for others by cooking delicious food? Sponsor an evening meal\, a breakfast casserole\, or evening snacks. Do you show God’s love by making people feel welcomed and cared for? Sign up to be an evening volunteer or an early morning breakfast server. Do you show God’s love by helping behind the scenes? Consider being a team captain for a part of Hypothermia week\, set up an afternoon snack before guests arrive\, or plan to donate clothing items and gift cards. Are you gifted with organization and communication skills or a heart to serve through facilitating a small team? We need team leaders for evenings\, afternoons\, and mornings. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to gather for a Blue Christmas worship service on Sunday\, December 21\, at 7:00pm in the Fairfax UMC Chapel. This service offers a quiet\, reflective space for those experiencing grief\, loss\, or stress during the holiday season. Through Scripture\, music\, and prayer\, we come together and acknowledge the difficulties of this season while holding onto the hope and comfort that Christ brings. All are welcome to come and find peace\, support\, and God’s presence through this sacred time.
